A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for murdering his fellow herd man, over ZWL$45 sometime in March 2020.

Jaison Dzingira worked as a herd man together with the now deceased, Trust Munhuwei, at Plot 38 central Estates in Mvuma.

Dzingira killed Munhuwei and concealed his body in a shallow grave that he covered with a 50kg empty sack. He was sentenced to 20years effective jail term by Bulawayo High court Judge Justice Martin Makonese after a full trial in Gweru.

The convict had denied the offence in court but he had confessed everything he did to the police on his warned and cautioned statement, which was then corroborated by some of the submissions of the state witnesses.

Circumstances surrounding the heinous murder crime are that, sometime in March 2020, Dzingira and Munhuwei milked about 6 liters of cattle milk at their workplace.

The deceased Munhuwei then sold the milk for $45, local currency, in Mvuma which they were supposed to share with Dzingira.

However, upon return from selling the milk, Dzingira asked for his own share of the proceeds but his colleague highlighted that he had used the money to buy some cooling oil which they were supposed to use since they stayed together and shared everything as colleagues.

The deceased`s decision did not go down well with the convict, who then took an axe and struck Munhuwei twice on his head and he died on the spot.

After having realized the seriousness of the offence he had committed, Dzingira decided to conceal the body of his fellow herd man in a pit and covered it with a sack.

The matter came to light after the deceased`s relatives Averinos Zimbuku, Bygirl Mukanganana and his neighbor Janet Masaga teamed up to look for the deceased at his workplace.

The trio had been sent by the deceased`s wife who stays in Gutu after having nightmares that indicated that her husband was missing.

Initially Dzingira lied to the trio concerning the whereabouts of the deceased and they returned to their homes.

After a few days, the trio smelled an odor and upon following up on the odor they discovered that it was the remains of the deceased whom they had been searching for, leading to the arrest of Dzingira.
