The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, MoPsE has urged schools to start incoming generating projects, so as to compliment the efforts be made by the government in the education sector. In his speech at the BSPZ district schools merit awards in Kariba, provincial education director for Mashonaland west Gabriel Mhuma highlighted the need to invest in income generating projects, describing it as key to the success, of schools in the province.

"There are good income generating projects in Kariba which can make schools develop, said Mumha.

"The kapenta business is one of them so why not buy a kapenta fish rig and increase your revenue streams? School authorities should now think outside the box and by doing so we will now be promoting sustainability in the education sector.

"You should also find ways to incorporate what is relevant to your learning, in your area. For example, in Kariba you have tourism and fisheries, why not spare time to impart knowledge on these to your pupils, to make sure that when learners are out of schools, they will be equipped and ready to join any of these sectors.

The District Merit Awards, are running under the theme, "Embracing information communication technologies (ICT), for improved access and inclusive quality education."

Guest of honor, Antonette Scholtz said ICT as a versatile tool, has the capacity not only of engaging students in instructional activities to increase their learning, but to also help them solve complex problems, they encounter in enhancing their cognitive skills.

"I truly believe that if we peruse this vision with unwavering passion, vigor and tenacity of purpose, our nation will soon reap the fruits of our endeavors, said Scholtz.

" As a district it is pleasing to observe that you are leaving visible footprints as you join the rest of the country in our determined march towards the creation of a middle-class economy.

Kariba District Schools inspector, Ishmael Katiyo said there was need to construct new primary and secondary schools.

"Given the nature and extent of our infrastructure needs, the district will require support from MoPSE`s education partners. It is important also to note that we got thirty-five unregistered schools that are in the process of registering their activities with us.”
